Tonight, i got home and there was a letter from Wrexham telling me I got one out of three in the open, its the greek shrines and I've got to drop some stuff off in mold but what, I'm not sure since they haven'y told me exactly, I'm a bit worried, they seem new, can I trust them. Could be a bit more professioanl that's for sure. Oh Yeah and the Collage gallery in Gostins building, Hanover Street in Liverpool oficialy opened tonight so went along and saw my one print in the caf and six cards in the rack

Yesterday I entered 3 pieces into the Wrexham open. The pieces were
Angel collage, Horse1 & three greek shrines. I'll find out in the week if they have been accepted, probably wed or Thursday. In the meantime its the last day of our stall at the Manchester Xmas market today, Alan say's I've made £40 so far. That's an improvement on last year, I'll jut about cover my costs this time.

Bloody Hell!!! Why is it so difficult to get access to my own account?? Why do I need all these stupid passwords, which the bloody system doesn't then recoginse even when I've updated them?? Blogger, google, you're crap!!!

Afte this rant, I have to tell my approx three readers a week that I've submitted my work into two exhibitions. WEst Lancs Open got a shrine tryptich called Three Greek Shrines that I priced for £100 & This years must have bag which I priced at £75.

Just driven through the rain to the Stockport Art Gallery to deposit this year's two submissions, Fusker, £75 and Horse I (part of a new series) also for £75. I've got to go away next weekend so Sod's Law declares that this year won't be as easy as last year when I expected nothing & got both works into both shows. You make plans for the summer months in advance and then find that they clash with everything else you try to do, courses, exhibitions, gigs even etc. Still its all done now we'll have to wait and see. Expecting some news midweek.

Missed printmaking last week as I was eturning from holiday. Got back to work this week and someone said they'd seen my name in the Guardian listings . . . In an exhibition at Capitalists of Culture that I'm not actually in. They asked me if I wanted to be involved, I said 'yes' & filled in the paperwork, but they didn't say when the exhibition would begin. I sent the forms off ad read about the exhibition the next week!

Saturday's PV went well and I sold one of my shrine prints to a former boss! I felt great all weekend, (thanks to the nice weather too) Went to my first sessioin at Wresham print centre too, learnt a new way of working. Getting ready to enter the opens now, three coming up.

I've been away ages, trying to get qround blogger forcing yet another password on me, well I won! Good news is that my exhibition at the eggspace in Liverpool opened yesterday and today Iit was covered in the local edition of the Metro.

I put 8 pieces in, really pleased with the way it looks, stands up well as a body of work, I needed cheering up becuase haven't had any luck getting into other shows - put in for a couple of other print shows in Wrexham and Leicester and wasn't successful with either so can't cut it with the printmakers yet. This may well be my only show for a while. Been busy making cards - think I might have an outlet so watch this space!

Went to Saltburn Gallery yesterday to pick up my unsold stuff from the gallery, I sold three things, all beetle plates. There's a great exhibition on there at the moment too, what a lovely town. I can't recommend it highly enough, wish I'd stayed there and not gone on to Whitby which was just tourist hell!

Also today, the Bluecoat called me to offer an opportunity on a printmaking course on Thursday nights. too late for this week and would have missed the next two weeks due to out of hours work committments . .really annoyed about this. Its bad enough that I have to spend 35 hours a week in an office to earn a crust without the imposition on my evenings too!

The trouble with Gocco

Last week Alan gave me a submission form for the Leicester mini-print international. 10cmx10cm, all that alowed. Choice of current work = zodiac signs, shrines, small landscapes. Hmm! Nothing stands out and its £18 to enter so it got to be something I'm pretty sure of. I though some Gocco printed jewel, like beetles might do it for me. Only got two screens and four bulbs left, not much margin for error or experimentation. I WISH SOMEONE IN THE UK SOLD THIS STUFF!! Its gonna take 10 days t get anyhting sent from Japan via ebay. :-(

It was a slog to get up to Rossendale today, awful drving conditions all the there & back, worth it though, a productive day. Finished the latest dino plate, This year's must have bag" bit more layers of aquatint on the lizard plate and started work on an idea for the 'black plate' that Alan obliteratred for me before Xmas. He also gave me an entery form for the Leicester mini Print International, £18 to enter, they only want small prints, shrines maybe a possiblity.

Dropped off my disclaimer form at the egg gallery this week - looks like I'm in a show that kicks off at the end of March with about 4/5 other people. Won't hear about Wrexham submission for the touring show until next month, found a Liverpool thing to apply for too - less is more this year, I think. Still haven't made any new work, having confidence crisis. Thank God for positive comments on Flickr also still suffering from post Xmas indolence.
About the inherit a sewing machine, hope I can make some use of it other than meeting it on a dissecting table!!

This time last year my aim was to exhibit my work again. I've had my work in seven shows in 2006, appeared in a artzine, won £100 at the Stockport Open and sold a print at the Sefton Open, I've also sold at least one piece of ceramic at the Saltburn gallery so a very pleasing year. I've also done the screen printing course at Hot Bed Press, a photoshop course at FACT, the collagraph course at Wrexham and the night school class. In the midle of all this I've moved house & been bogged down by a load of decorating and related crap. The pic on the right is a bloody 'to do' list I was working my way throught earlier this month. I hope now, I'll have more time to spend on my work. I'll go back o Wrexham & keep visiting Alan's studio but the rest I can do at home. The first show of 2007 is in the planning - let's hope its a good year.

Night school finsihed this week, This is the first chance I've had to update blog since, been busy with work Xmas do, aniother Snow patrol gig and other Xmassy things. Did an engraving on prespex. not bad, might develop it further, sorry to say goodbye to the people on the class, they were all nice. But only one lady is interested in coming back next term so looks like the course won't be running.

Also got an email from the Egg offering me a place in group show March/April. I'll deffo say Yes to that. More as it happens!

No mid week night school this week since I chose to see the Future of Sound perfoamce at FACT instead. Today last of the Wrexham sessions, very good course. Will try and go to open access in teh new year, 10th Jan onwards. Just made a few drypoints on card, easy to do and quite pleasing to do. Might develop this work next year & see where I can take it.

Did a bit more work on last week's prints, the dragon flys look at bit like the angle of the north, that was unintentional let me tell you! Haven't even seen the bloody thing with my own eyes. Anyway lack of preparation caused some struggle today, mental tussel based on feeling inadequate, that's what's brought me down and trapped me for so long. Perpahs just not in the mood, been doing too much lately, haven't even made any Xmas cards yet. Only a select few will receive them anyway. Usually its just pearls before swine!

Second November Printing session

Good progress today, printed my cat woodcut in a variety of ways, got something to enter into Wrexham print show, that's this week's goal anyway. Also progressed aquatiniting on latest dinosaur & lizard plates but they will now have to wait until the new year to be completed as my next session at Alan's studio is 20th Jan. Alan managed to finally obliterate the sheep for me so if I feel the urge over the coming weeks, I can work on making something new out of that.

How did I get on in Manchester Xmas Market? I sold one beetle Gocco print & some cards, encouraging. Made £17.50 so the stall only cost me £1.55, nearer to making some money anyway! Adela is taking my stuff for her stall at the Xmas market at the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh (nr Wigan) on 8th December.

Got Wrexham on Saturday and Alan's class on Sunday so a busy week for printmaking - need to get submission ready for Wrexham show next week.

Missed week 2 of my Wrexham course this morning but worth it as I really enjoyed the opening last night, what a great litttle gallery, so glad we braved the 4hr drive to get there AND I sold the bowl on the opening night, met some nice people too! The xmas stall has been running in Manchester city centre for the past two days, I wonder how its go on? My stint tomorrow night.

First day of a short course at the Regional print centre in Wrexham, north Wales. Very good. learnt quite a lot about what I could get out of a collagraph, did a both relief and a intaglio print. I prefer intaglio, lots of ideas.

The publicity for the saltburn show arrived today, they put one of my images on their invite. Really pleased, its been going well this year. Hope I can keep up the momentum next year. The application form for the Wrexham Print International came today. That's a touring show so it would be really great to be involved.

First November Session

Worked all day aquatinting the dinosaur with handbag but waiting for stop out varnish to dry so still another few layers to go. etched the lines in this new plate, this also took me nearly all day to draw out, in between attending to the aquatinting process. Hmm! image isn't as strong as I'd hoped, I hope this doesn't go the same way as the sheep which were awful after many days of poring over the plate. Also tried to obliterate that plate with acid today but even after two 15-20 minutes dips, it refused to die and sheep were clearly visable. Had to leave it with Alan from him to deal with, back at the end of the month. In the meantime its the disappointing night school which resumes next week and a trip out to the print facilities in Wrexham next week. I'ver had to move a hairdessing appointment - it better be good!

The Atkinson Gallery rang to say that they'd sold 'Her Big Day' at the Sefton Open. I'm delighted, apart from two Xmas cards last year. its the first thing I've sold for over 10 years. if the person who bought it stumbles across this blog, I can only say 'Thank you very much.'

Packed up my stuff for the Saltburn Show, just need to arrange courier times with them. Off work today for a two day course in Photoshop at mites at a subsidised artists rate and another printmaking session on Saturday so three days of creative work, hooray!

Rescued my cards from Dot Art, they's not sold any but given that they were in the store room, I'm not surprised! Xmas Craft Market in Manchester city centre, 17-19th November, got a load of cards ready.

Disappointment at the dot art gallery, she hadn't put my cards out and a I saw a few people buying cards and there were lots of people at the private view so not very happy, I think I'll have to ask her what's going on and ask for them back.

Submitted some old work for an Xmas selling show at Saltburn Gallery. Went to the PV of the Sefton Open to see me bride picture and some Biennal PVs. Waiting for some screens and blubs to come from Japan to make more Gocco prints.
Got my prize money from Stockport Open, deciding whether to buy a full Gocco printing kit in view of the company ceasing production, hmm!

Last night was the PV of the Stockport show, my work is hung upstairs. I was amazed to see a sticker next to bling bling saying I'd won a merit award. £100, absoutly amazed!!! Feel encourged by that. Arena proposal criteria

Here's what they are asking for, I'm losing my nerve on this one. "We are looking at facilitation three large groups and up to 10 individual artists each stage. Rental costs could be subsidised, but all exhibitors will be expected to contribute to rental costs for exhibition space.

Individual artists, artists groups and associations are asked to submit current CV’s, exhibition proposals, a CD-rom showing their practise, a non-refundable £5.00 administration fee (cheques only please)and a stamped self addressed envelope.

Individual artists should write 250 to 1000 words including a personal statement and a proposal outlining your project and what your requirements would be. For larger organisations please write up to 2,500 words including information on you and your previous work and what you propose to do. Also how you intend to make this happen together with details of how you plan to finance this."

Got an email from Mike telling me he's after stuff for the next edition of the fanzine, got an idea already. Easy to sort over the weekend I hope. Also an invite to open studios in two weeks time. No chance for me to exhibit there unless I get accepted in to the Arena Show. Two weeks to put something coherant together. Otherwise the biennial will pass me by again. I can't find an exhibition space and look after an exhibition for six weeks while I work full time.

June printmaking session

Put an aquatint on the background of this. Its not working, I don't like it. Don't think I'll enter it into any of the exhibitions. The figures look stilted and don't have any movement in them. Might test this plate to destruction just to see what I get.

In contrast, this little drypoint I did on Thurdsay & Friday nights and worked really well, thinking of doing a series to go with a shrine that I'd like to make.

The intaglio press broke at 2pm and the lino press was busy so filled in the rest of the session experimenting with mono prints.

Might not get a chance to print linos this week but feel like doing some, after not giving it a lot of thought for a couple of months.
Had a think about how much I could take away and still have a recognisable image.

Been away for a week. Now must get my head down. Got a printmaking session on Saturday, so need to make full use of that to finish the sheep, plus in the meantime get THREE things framed to enter to the two opens with deadlines on Sat 1 July. Think this is what I'm going to do.

Plus there's a 15 July deadline for a biennial submission @ Arena Studios. Want to make a 3D my shrine piece for that so also need to motor on with putting together as much of the idea as I can and a good justification.

Saw Liverpool John Moores Uni's Fine art, about four promising students, if I'd have been a moderator I'd have been dishing out a lot of thirds! graphics & illustration or was superb firsts & 2.1's all round as far as I'm concerned. Maybe my tastes are too commercial. Wish me bloody work was!

Two day workshop. not as easy as getting on a bike! Will have to go back for an advanced course in the autumn before i can be let loose in there on my own. Worth joining as a member though (after I've done the next course) forgot how much I love screen printing, loads of ideas on the go now.

Have decided that I'll enter the Sefton Open , deadline 20 July, the Stockport Open and the West Lancs Open deadline 23rd June as they are all in reasonable travelling distance.

Will also try Threatre Clwyd with the cards (wish I still had the ceramics on the go) and need to finish the info for the Dot Art site this week, they need prices and info plus a CV and statement.

A good day, ran off a few landscapes, burnished the shark to soften the shading and aquatinted the sheep. Sheep need a background but at least I've got something new I can enter itnto all the open exhibitions that are coming up.

unusual work and would be delighted to have you on the dot-art site.

we can create you a page on the site for free at this stage, (for which
we will need high quality images of all your available work, with title,
price including dot-arts 35% commission, media and dimensions, as well
as an artists statement and cv) but if you wish to be promoted through
our other activities, you will need to become a member of the dot-art
artists club.

- access to exhibition opportunities in our forthcoming gallery at the
albert dock, liverpool. this is a huge opportunity for all our artists

Red Wire Sumbmission

Finally got artwork ready, battled with giant sized images - twice! Getting a submission ready for Dot Art, web site of Liverpool artists, not confident, no printmakers on show yet, lack of colour puts off even art professionals. Going to the Bluecoat print show tomorrow, will gather material for repost to arrogant types at LDI. Watch this space!!

A very productive day, finshed aquatinting the shark, just need a bit of burnishing to soften the layers. Printed up the landscape, benefited from extra scratching over the last few weeks, looks good. Started plate for second in public sector management series.

Took my work to the Kitchen Gallery yesteerday, beautiful day walked through the walled garden to get there. Alas not everyone appreciates my work, rather rude (I feel) email from the LDI after a month of wondering what's going on. I don't think I'll bother with them again. These are the people who still send mailing to an address I last lived in 8 1/2 years ago! So not that convinced they're that well set up dispite their high handed ways. Toads!! - I might even get a print ot of this!!

Sent form in to Capitalists gallery, today. Got a response asking for a CD. Will pop one in the post over Easter. Must remember to get picture wire before Friday when I have to take the prints to the Kitchen Gallery.

I am a printmaker, the theme that is emerging in my current body of work is a tongue in cheek juxtaposition of animals (both living an extinct!) in surreal situations. The prints featuring dinosaurs are part of a series depicting the obsessions of a consumer society. Currently working on a new series entitled ‘Public Sector Management’ based on characters in the workplace.

A productive day. Late night carving when I got in last night provided me with an extra lino cut. So two more in the horoscope series sucessfully printed up. Plate made for first in the new series PUBLIC SECTOR MANAGEMENT in the middle of aquatiniting now. Also ran off landscape work in progress, looks OK, will progress it in quiet moments. Back in two weeks time, so meeting room plus AN other idea needs to be finalised by then

Sue's PV at the Unity Theatre last night, she's applying for funding for PR, trying and get a package together for her.

Surprise text from John, in town to promote the show he's in at the Maritime Museum, nice lunch together today. Show is about dreams, his work about forensics. Still its touring internationally and coming back to Liverpool in 08, not bad!

Printmaking tomorrow, chaos in my life has prevented much progress alas, one drawing and one lino ready(ish) not two of each as I planned. Oh well, see how I get on.

Sue writes via snail mail to say Relentless Forms was in the Guardian listings! Must see this! Geoff emails to recommend the Art06 event in Preston. Hmm, not convinced it would be any good to me, but not enough info, maybe worth an email but they don't ask for images also put off by arts council form. Wish I still had me ceramics going, they would have been ideal. Trying to get drawings ready for Saturday's printmaking session.

Passed all the Police cordons for the Condi Rice demonsrtatiors to get to the funding meeting just to try and see how work can be submittted to the Indepentdants section of the Biennial. Waste of time! Very quickly became a row about the setting up of a board, who'd be on it, remit etc, etc, Gave up after an hour and still none the wiser!
